One of the most anticipated events of the year for the Overseas Filipino Workers or the OFWs is the OFW and Family Summit. The Villar SIPAG, headed by Senator Cynthia Villar and Former Senate President Manny Villar, in partnership with the Go Negosyo, headed by Joey Concepcion and Ramon Lopez, organized this meaningful annual event to teach and to imbibe the importance of investing in a business to the OFW and their families.

Thousands of OFWs and their families went to the World Trade Center to participate in the 4th OFW and Family Summit

This year’s summit focuses on agribusiness. Different businesses related to agriculture were taught to the OFWs and their families to give different option where to invest their hard-earned income. Techniques and methodologies were discussed in the whole day event to give them entrepreneurial knowledge, related to agriculture, to more than two thousand participants who attended in the event.

The topics were about farming, fish farming, agri-tourism, fruit trees, dairy farming and vegetable and organic farming. All of these are in relation to investing the income earned by OFW abroad to any agriculture related business that they want to pursue, depends on the availability of resources where they come from.

Aside from agri-business topics, the participants were also taught of direct selling businesses courtesy of the officers of the Direct Selling Association of the Philippines.

Ms. Toots Ople, President and Founder of Ople Policy and Training Institute, was also one of the resource speakers of the summit. She discussed the problems of OFWs. Few of the problems was the illegal recruitment and scam. She advised participants on how to avoid illegal recruitment and different form of scam.

The 4th OFW and Family Summit is not as exciting as the past summits without the exciting prizes that await to those who registered and attended the event. There are grocery packages, pangkabuhayan packages, motorcycles, and of course, the grand prize, a house and lot courtesy of Camella Homes.

This year’s winner lucky winner of house and lot from Camella Homes is a former OFW who heard the news about the summit in DZMM and DZRH. He hurried up to prepare for the summit and wished for a luck to win house and lot.

The event was also participated by different government agencies like the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Department of Labor and Employment – National Reintegration Center for OFWs (DOLE-NRCO), the SSS – Pasay branch, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers and Welfare Association, Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprises Development, and the Department of Agriculture. These institutional partners have their booth installed in the event to help individuals in need of their assistance.
