Pnoy’s State of the Nation Address

President Benigno Simeon Aquino III delivered his sixth and last State of the Nation Address last July 27, 2015, by showcasing his anti-corruption drive and accomplishment from the past five years. He thanked many of his cabinet secretaries and heads of the government for their respective achievements including former Customs Commissioner John Philip Sevilla.

The president’s almost two-hour speech tackled more on his ‘tuwid na daan’ accomplishments like various infrastructure projects that were part of the plan that was never accomplished by previous administrations; modernization of AFP and PNP which includes giving sufficient arms and ammos for the uniformed personnel; and the response of the government in many disasters and tragedy happened in the country like the Bohol earthquake, Typhoon Yolanda and the bloody Zamboanga siege.

At the last part, the president wishes that his reforms should be continued by the next president so his accomplishment will not be jeopardized.

On the other news, Vice President Jejomar Binay announced that he will be staging his own State of the Nation Address.

Iglesia Ni Cristo Scandal

It started with a YouTube video of Felix Nathaniel “Angel Manalo” accusing high officials of the Iglesia Ni Cristo of life threatening them after they exposed the alleged corruptions and posh lifestyle of high ranking ministers of the said church organization.

There were reports of abductions of Angel Manalo and his mother but later these two admitted that they were not abducted but their life is in danger. The NBI intervened as lives are in danger and investigated this escalating issue.

Because of this controversy, Angel and Tenny Manalo, together with supporters, were expelled from the INC membership. This was approved by Eduardo Manalo, brother of Angel and the current chief executive of the INC. The INC leadership dismissed the allegations hurled against them and sued Angel and Tenny Manalo in Court.

Mayor Jun-Jun Binay Stepped Down, temporarily

Vice Mayor Romulo “Kid” Pena took over the Makati mayoralty post while Mayor Binay is serving his second suspension order by the Office of the Ombudsman. This is the second suspension order by the Ombudsman but this is the first time that Mayor Binay stepped down as the head of Makati. The first order was disregarded by the mayor. The order was also reversed by the Court of Appeals.

Mayor Jun-Jun was with his father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, during the step-down speech held at the quadrangle in Makati City Hall. There was a clash between the supporters of Mayor Binay and the police officers. The chaos escalated when police officers who were tasked by the DILG to serve the suspension had a clash with Vice President Binay.

The suspension and Mayor Binay’s stepping down made acting Mayor Pena revealed some unseen places in the city hall which includes bedroom for the Mayor. The media circulated the comparison between the Mayor’s office and the Vice Mayor’s office. Pena also suspended sister cities pacts and some services of the city hall which angered the Binays as those actions are disservice to the Makati people.

Presidential Campaign

The 2016 Philippine Presidential Election is heating up as speculations, issues and tandems are always the hot news in the television networks, broadsheet, radio and the social media.

President Aquino has anointed DILG Secretary Mar Roxas as a presidential candidate for the 2016 Presidential election. Secretary Roxas was the running mate of the President during the 2010 Presidential election but lost to Jojo Binay, a former Makati Mayor, in a close fight.

Senator Grace Poe, a neophyte senator, has been receiving issues on citizenship and different concerns regarding her capabilities on becoming the next president. Sen. Poe is the number one vote earner during the 2013 senatorial election and the current number in almost all surveys conducted by experts. She is being wooed by the president as possible tandem to Secretary Roxas. She is also being suit up with fellow senator, Chiz Escudero as President-VP tandem. Both senators have yet to announce their intention to run but was seen having interest by different political experts.

Davao Mayor Rodrigro Duterte has yet to announce and continuously declining his intention to run as the country’s top head. His presidential bid may come on time or may not as he considers himself old for the position. Although he is declining, he still commenting on various issues in the government that need to be solved.

Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago has surprised the people recently as she said she is still interested in running for president. She said that the cancer cell has been contained and she was allowed by her doctors to do what she may. Senator Defensor-Santiago ran but lost in the controversial 1992 Presidential election to former President Fidel V. Ramos.

Vice President Jejomar Binay is the man to beat, with or without running mate, in the coming presidential election. The Vice President was topping the chart in almost all surveys. Only recently that Sen. Poe has overcome VP Binay.

Philippine Delegation to The Hague

The Philippine has sent delegation to The Hague to raise the issue against China on the latter’s reclamation and claims on the disputed territory in the West Philippine Sea. The delegation was composed of the Philippine top officials that include Supreme Court Justices Francis Jardeleza and Antonio Carpio, Secretary Leila de Lima, House Speaker Sonny Belmonte, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, Presidential Spokeperson Abigail Valte, Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa and Foreign Secretary Albert Del Rosario.


The first round of oral argument was all focus on the jurisdiction of the arbitral tribunal of the United Nations. The strongest argument of China is the jurisdiction of the arbitral tribunal for hearing of this case.


The Philippine also raised five issues such as issue against China’s historical rights; the UNCLOS definition of Exclusive Economic Zone; against China 9-dash rule; violation of the law of the sea and; destructions of the environment on China’s reclamation.

  6. #MayorDUTERTEFORPRESIDENT, kailangan natin ng palaban at matapang na presidente ngayon para di na tayo apiin ng ibang bansa katulad ng china. kailangan na din madisiplina mga pilipino para umasenso na ang bansa.
