Top Trend News 5: Gilas Won Silver Medal in Jones Cup

The Gilas Pilipinas rejoined the Annual Jones Cup in Taiwan after being absent for two years. They won silver medal after winning six games against two loses which made them top two. Current Asian basketball powerhouse Iran won the gold after winning six games against one lost.

The last time Gilas Pilipinas participated in the Jones Cup was in 2013 and they won the gold. Few months after winning the gold, the Philippine had serious tension with the Taiwan after what happened in northern part of the country.

Terrence Romeo has been the center of attention for showing his dribbling skills during the tournament. In fact, he got the attention of Taiwan’s sport news reporter, Jenny Yu. On the other hand, Jayson Castro proved to the basketball world that he is the best point guard in Asia after winning one of the mythical five.

Top Trend News 4: Presidential Election 2016 Fever

Senators Grace Poe and Chiz Escudero declared their intention to run as president and vice president, respectively. Sen. Chiz Escudero declared his intention the day after Sen Grace Poe declared. This tandem makes the first president and vice president tandem for the 2016 Philippine National Election.
Vice President Jejomar Binay and Mar Roxas, both declared running for president, has not yet named their running mate.

Mar Roxas is still courting Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo to his running mate. Cong. Leni Robredo is the wife of late Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo who is revered public servant.
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano also declared his intention for running in the second highest position of the country in Davao City. This made a speculation that he might be running with Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of the said province.

Top Trend News 3: Reyes Brothers finally caught

Former Palawan Governor Joel Reyes and former Coron, Palawan Mayor were caught in Thailand after years of eluding justice in the Philippines. Reyes brothers were accused of killing environmentalist Gerry Ortega. They were deported back in the Philippines.

Top Trend News 2: AlDub conquers the TV

Eat Bulaga's AlDub, short for Alden Richards and Yaya Dub (Maine Mendoza), has really become instant and continuing love team sensation in the country. They become more popular through Facebook, Twitter and YouTube gaining millions of followers. In Twitter, they gained 12 million and 25 million tweets.

Both Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza gained endorsement commercials from two companies, McDonalds and Talk N Text. This proves that their popularity has gone so high.

Top Trend News 1: The Worsening Traffic in Metro Manila

Metro Manila and the nearby provinces experienced and experiencing worsening traffic, the world class traffic. The night of September 8, 2015 became one of the worst commuting experience of the commuting public. The usual one to two hours of commute became six to eight hours of commute.

The worsening traffic compelled the Highway Patrol Group of the Philippine National Police to be part of government efforts to lessen traffic in Metro Manila. Originally, only the Metro Manila Development Authority and the local government traffic enforcers.

  1. Hay malungkot pa rin ako sa pagkatalo ng Gilas. tsk tsk. nakaka-disappoint lang talaga yung mga call ng officials.

    Anyway, tungkol sa election mukhang mahihirapan naman tayong mamili ng vice president. Ang dami kasi nila. First ata ang magkaroon ng madaming vice president candidate.
