The Gilas Pilipinas once again won the silver medal in the recently concluded FIBA Asia Championship that was held in China.

The Gilas Pilipinas started their campaign with a disappointing lost to the unranked and new team, Palestine. The Gilas Pilipinas has learned their lesson won consecutive games which includes the game against fellow Asian basketball powerhouse team, Iran.

The win against Iran and Japan made the Gilas Pilipinas top the group and sent Japan to the other group. Philippine had seen themselves in the easier bracket - Japan, Lebanon and Qatar, while the other group is composed of China, Iran, Korea and India. China, Iran and Korea are tough teams in Asia.

Prior to the start of the quarterfinals match, the Lebanese coach made a remarks that they are happy not to be on the same bracket with either Iran or China and considered Gilas Pilipinas as easier opponent. The Gilas team punished them with a lost and sent the Lebanese basketball team to classification games.

The Japanese basketball team won against the Qataris during their respective quarterfinals match. The win made the Japanese team a semi-final contender for the first time since 1997. The win also booked a rematch against the Philippines who has beaten twice this year, the first in Jones Cup 2015 in Taiwan and the second was in second round of the FIBA Asia 2015.

The Philippine and Japanese basketball teams had tough first three quarters during the semifinals but the Philippines eventually won and sealed their way to the Finals.

On the other bracket, the defending champion Iran lost against the host, China, in highly contested and rough game. The lost was questionable for the defending champion because of numerous questionable calls from the referees.

The Gilas Pilipinas suffered the same fate during the Finals. There were obvious calls and non-calls of referees that favored the host China. What is worse is that the Philippines suffered bullying from the host country prior and after the game.
